Thermal Spray Application and Practice from the Tried and True to the New and Emerging

This presentation will focus on the industrial application and use of thermal sprayed coatings for a variety of common and not-so-common wear and corrosion challenges. The intent of the discussion is to emphasize what is possible, practical, and advisable in thermal spray application design, and will include discussion of both well-established technologies with proven track records, such as plasma applied ceramics and HVOF applied carbides, and newer developments such as internal diameter HVOF application, cold spray, and solution spraying. The presenter, Mr. Daniel Hayden, is a past chairman and current executive committee member of the International Thermal Spray Association, and an executive committee member of the ASM Thermal Spray Society. Mr. Hayden is also a member of the American Welding Society C2 Committee for Thermal Spraying and the owner of a thermal spray and laser cladding application facility in New England. He will also spend time discussing the state of the thermal spray application industry and workforce pipeline, and will present efforts by both ASM/TSS and ITSA to grow and develop both the wealth of talent in the industry and the adoption of surface enhancement as a strategic advantage for heavy manufacturing.
